Between our generations, we have noticed that even though the unwanted clothes will always be kept in the attic or wherever there is space, one year after the other there are pieces found that have been brought back in style. Proving the Laver’s Law by James Laver that styles always come back

Eva’s vision on this
Growing up one of my favorite moments was when the neighbor invited us for ‘De Zak” literally this means ‘The Bag”. Whenever there was a full garbage bag of cloth to go through it was time to get together. I knew she had a niece that was very cool and somehow sometimes her clothes would end up in ‘De Zak”. One of my very first treasures was a sleeveless jean vest, with a few buttons/pins on it. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen!. I wore it the next day to school and I must admit, I did not get a lot of compliments, but I didn't need them - I felt like a boss!
This tradition, passing on clothes was something that has been passed on and is still a thing. When my kids were small and my sister had kids just a bit younger, all the little jackets and dresses were passed on. And also Lola (2 years younger than her brother wore almost all of his clothes).
I gave away a lot of my own clothes over the years, but there were always some items that I would just never part with. Sometimes because I just paid too much for it, and that still hurted. Or sometimes items were just too special. I do think there always was a thought that one day I would also pass those on to Lola.
When Lola was tall enough to fit some items I started to ‘sell’ things to her. Mostly without any success.
It still is a process that is going on. I even moved several boxes labeled ‘too good to go’ to Spain from the Netherlands.
It really gives me joy to go through those treasured items - some are full of memories, some are ….
Lola’s vision on this
The funny thing about my moms collection of dusty clothes in the attic is that each year we would look at it again on a random Tuesday when we just had dinner and were not feeling tired enough to go to bed. It was those nights that everything made you laugh – especially seeing the CRAZY items my mom keeps; in hope that I like them. In an era where I would only wear sporty clothes because at that time this was considered “cool”, she would try to sell me something like an old leather bordeaux red jacket with cherry stitching on it. I looked at it and thought in what world would I ever wear this. But then a time came, usually about two yeats later where suddenly i thought OMG, this jacket is so fucking fabulous!!!
These nights consisted of a lot of judging, persuasion (from her side), laughing, loving and sometimes some begging from me to stop her from begging me to take the clothes…
After we moved from our first family house we upgraded the dusty attic clothes to a bit of a more organized collection in storage boxes on top of my moms closets. But still, those nights came where all of the sudden I come home with something I bought at the thrift shop and my mom sees it and goes; “Lola! I didn't know you liked that style!”, “I have like seven of those types of tops up stairs!”. And then again we went to the boxes and plucked out and tried on everything until it was hard to find the actual floor to stand on.
Seeing how these nights keep happening we have, in our opinion, definitely proved this point of styles and trends coming back. As James Laver (from the Laver’s Theory on Fashion) said, this circle of fashion is fluid and sometimes things come back sooner or later than you think but the fact that things always come back we have seen!
So; this is your sign to (secretly) keep/ hoard those clothes that deep down you feel like they will come back in style or are just worth it to keep. One day either you, your daughter/ son, neighbour or sister will want it. And don't we all love seeing someone YOU love in your clothes. I know I do… Makes me damn proud.
And you know that a good quality or spectacular item will definitely have a much longer life So choose wisely ;)
Love,
Eva Y Lola

This cardigan was once Eva's and now worn so much by Lola that we had to but new buttons on it...god knows how that happens...
